The local branch of the socialist party in Motril, the PSOE, have publicly asked the Mayor about the stalled market project.
According to the PSOE Spokeswoman, Flor Almón, the governing party had promised back in March that the surrounding area of the municipal market would get a facelift.
Councillor Almón emphasized the need to ‘revitalize’ the fish & meat market, eradicating the security problems and the ‘bad smells’ emanating from the area, much to the chagrin of its neighbours.
“In Motril there are few areas like the market and its surroundings where you can just about anything, mainly food items yet the area needs an ‘push’, which is precisely what the local traders are demanding,” said Councillor Flor Almón
The response from the governing party didn’t take long, with the Vice-Mayor, Nicolás Navarro, who pointed out that the said facelift depended upon funds from the Junta de Andalucia, which is in socialist hands.
He went on to refer to the interior of the market, pointing out that they had formed a commission, which counts on the opinions and ideas of the stall holders to “revitalize” the building, with special attention to the upper floor.
