The Death of a Flamingo

The Salobreña, conservative candidate for Mayor, Mari Carmen Vílchez, vigorously condemned the killing of a flamingo.

The bird, which had spent several days resting up in the El Gambullón area, had been shot.

It was two locals who had been visiting this exotic bird everyday who came across the bird lying on the ground and a person attacking it to kill it off.

According to the ring that the bird had around one of its legs, it had been tagged in Paris and had landed in Salobreña to gather its strength for the flight south. Its stay had been a source of enjoyment for local wildlife lovers.

The said candidate launched into a speech concerning educating people about respecting wildlife and how privileged we are with this climate, etc, etc.

The dead flamingo has been handed over to the biologists at the Motril waterfowl sanctuary, La Charca de Suárez, to ascertain the cause of death.

Editorial note: We don’t have a photo of the said bird but if any of our readers does have one, we would appreciate a digital copy to add to this article. full photo credit will be given, obviously.
