Guided Tours of the Fishing Port Begin

guided tours at motril fishing portAs of this month you will now be able to visit the fishing port area of Motril Port, accompanied by a guide.

The idea, entitled: Descubre Los Secretos de la Lonja, which is backed by a 43,000-euro grant from the EU… naturally, comprises of morning and afternoon visits for both individuals and groups.

However, if you want to see how the catches are auctioned, then you must make sure that you arrange for an evening visit, as that is when the boats come back from a day’s fishing.

The visits begin with the visitors being met by the guides at the doors of the fish warehouse/market (lonja), where a brief explanation on how the fishing port works is given.

Visitors are taken to the two separate areas that comprise the lonja: one for the more expensive fish species and the other for the more common ones.

You will then get a chance to take a look at the fishing boats that are tied up alongside the docks and where an explanation about the different fishing methods used in our area is given, as well as the type of fish that each one targets.

So, how do you make an appointment? You can do it either at the Tourist Information Office next to the park (Las Americas) or at the offices of the fishing board at the port.
