If we were ever to run a prize for the most pathetic burglary, it would certainly go this year to two delinquents with brains the size of a small walnuts.
Two young men, aged 23 and 35, decided to take advantage of the upheaval caused by the Pinos Puentes annual fiestas to burgle a local supermarket. Most of the festive activities take place on the outskirts of the town so the street where the supermarket is was guaranteed to be ‘perfect’ for a well planned assault.
Trouble was, it wasn’t well planned; in fact you could be forgiven for thinking that ‘planning’ was an alien concept to our heroes of little success.
The idea was to force a backstreet window, bending back the bars. However, because of a lack of tools and foresight they could not actually get into the storeroom. They could only get an arm through and reach a palette of bleach bottles – which is what they took.
Not only did they have a lack of tools, but they didn’t have any transport either, so they had to transport the 600 litres of bleach in 120 bottles by hand and on foot to the nearby home of one of the sadly lacking lads .
OK, so you’ve got two men with 120, 5L bottles of bleach and not many ideas on what to do next, but what they did decide was not exactly ‘top notch’ reasoning because they began to sell it door-to-door around town; i.e., in the same town from where it was stolen.
They had accrued the vast sum of 15 euros when the Guardia Civil nicked them.
