The PP opposition party in Salobreña has called for the length of time that the blue zones operate on a daily basis to be reduced.
This appears to be a wake-up call for the Town Council and reflects a generalized feeling amongst chiringuito and restaurant owners that there has been a reduction in the number of customers this summer.
The Chairman of the local PP party, Mari Carmen Vílchez, met with the Chairman of the Asociación de Chiringuitos de la Costa Tropical, Francisco Trujillo, who raised the alarm about the drop in customers, since visitors have had to pay to park on the beachfront road during the early afternoon; i.e. during the time when most people eat lunch.
Whilst the PP leader admits that it was originally her party’s idea to install blue zoning in Salobreña, when they held the mayoralty, they do disagree with how it has been implemented; i.e., from morning to evening without a break, every day of the week.
She pointed out that in other towns along the coast this is not so, citing Almuñécar, which has 11.00h to 15.00h and then 19.00h to 22.00h. She added that in Motril there is only blue zoning in the town centre and none at all along the beach roads. Where there is blue zoning in Motril, between 14.00h and 17.00h, you don’t have to pay.
Sra. Vílchez believes that Salobreña is having one of its worse summers precisely because of these blanket blue-zoning times.
