Music School Building to be Finished

ALM Music School OnLAnybody that has been to the Almuñécar medical centre will have probably noticed there is an unfinished building in front of it; well, that’s going to change.

The Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, announced that the construction work, which has stood still for the last three years should be finished around the beginning of next year, costing approximately one million euros.

The Mayor, accompanied by the Councillor for Culture, Olga Ruano, inspected the facilities, which apart from the ground floor, have no glazed windows. The existing building is basically bare brick work and the concrete supporting structure and little else.

“We think that if we can get the work started in September, it should be finished by February,” explained the Mayor. Interestingly, next year is local-elections year…

Finally, the Mayor pointed out that the blueprints lacked a practice room for local bands; the ones that are presently practicing in the open – much to everybody’s delight… Accordingly the plans will be modified to include this requirement.

Editorial Note: Curiously, the necessary funds will not only be coming from the municipal coffers, but also from the Mancomunidad, leaving one wondering what this institution, controlled by the same political party as that of the Mayor of Almuñécar, is doing financing such a project?

The Mancomunidad is basically the pooling of local area funds for the purpose of providing water supply and sewage infrastructure for the towns along our coast. Not by a long stretch of the imagination would “building a music school” be within its remit.
