Salobreña Hotel Projects on the Move

SAL WreckIt would appear that the TH1 area of Salobreña, earmarked for hotel-use only, will start to take shape at the end of this year.

This project, which has been inactive for years, will begin with the basic infrastructure going in, such as roads, water mains and sewage systems.

We’re talking about the area between the Peñon and La Guardia, by the way.

This has come about because the Junta de Compensación (Compensation Board) reached an agreement to divide the whole of the TH1 into two phases, with the first one dealing with the said infrastructure.

The owners of two of the four plots; a hotel chain based in Majorca (Viva Hotels) have announced that they are in a [financial] position to begin work on the first of the hotels.

What has been holding it back has been a lack of financing, as all of the paperwork has already been obtained, so there has been no bureaucratic sticking point or delays.

To-date, Salobreña has no hotels on the seafront.

The Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández Pulido, has expressed the hope that once the infrastructure work has been completed or at least well underway, work on the hotel building can begin. But the fact remains that obtaining financial backing for the actual building of the hotel might be trickier than finding the backing for just the infrastructure.

Finally, the part of the beach where this first hotel will be going up is the part nearest to the Peñon.
