ALM Plaza de Madrid works OnLThe Plaza de Madrid in Almuñécar remains in the grip of roadworks, but there have been developments.

Firstly, on the 30th of June the Padul company abandoned the project as it was preferable to having to pay the heavy, penalty sum for going over completion date. At present three companies – two of which are Almuñécar-based ones – are hurrying to finish the job.

Secondly, and in the defence of the Padul company, they might possibly have made the deadline had they not been allegedly stood up by the amenity companies: telephone (land line) water board and electricity companies; none of whom apparently turned up when they were supposed to, putting the work back days each time.

The latest pledge to have it finished is the end of this week present week.

Lastly and amazingly, all the parking between the Plaza de Madrid and the corner of Avenida de Andalucía where the Caja Rural branch is has disappeared, accept for four solitary spaces for loading & unloading.

Editorial Comment: It is simply mind-blowing that on top of this main traffic artery being closed with summer in full swing, the Town Hall has seen fit to eliminate yet more parking space for tourists and residents alike!

What the devil is wrong with our politicians?
