Fortunately, there are not only beach goers that drop litter; there are also those that form groups to pick it up. A total of 23 people picked the Playa Marina del Este clean of litter on the European Clean up Day.
These volunteers belong to the Red Natura 2000 en Andalucía, which is a project organized by the Asociación Hombre y Territorio, funded by the Fundación Biodiversidad: Programa Playas, ríos, voluntariado y custodia del territorio 2014.
They retrieved 17 kilos of litter and other rubbish between them and dutifully logged the amount and location in the MARNOBA databank. This data bank records the type and origin of rubbish and where it ends up; i.e, the beach and on the seabed.
