Cinema Noir in Salobreña

It’s that time of year again, as for the third year running the Cine Noir Festival returns to Salobreña.

The III Muestra de Cine Negro kicks of with a film that won seven Goya nominations and the Award for Best Cinematographery. The film, entitled Caníbal was shot in Granada and directed by Manuel Martín Cuenca, from the Province of Almería.

SAL manuel martin cuenca OnLBoth the Director and the Script Writer will be at the inauguration on Tuesday the 11th of March at 12.00h. They will give a talk entitled Cinema in Times of Crisis, at 19.00h followed by the showing of the film Caníbal at the Auditorium.

This Salobreña film festival will also count on the presence of the celebrated Spanish film director, José Luis Garci, on Thursday the 13th. José Luis Garci was the first Spanish director ever to win an Oscar, which was for his film, Begin the Begin.

On that same day, El Crack II will be shown, which is probably one of the Spanish film noir greats in recent years. The film will also serve as homage to the recently deceased Alfredo Landa, who was a household name in Spain for decades.

The Chairman of the festival, writer Juan Madrid, says that this year’s is probably the “most complete to date” as it will enjoy the presence of three great directors, each one representing a different generation.

Wednesday will see the screening of the Chilean film, Los Debutantes, by Andrés Waissbluth. The film will be shown after a talk entitled Cine violento en una Sociedad Machista, given by Víctor Frías, a university professor at the University of Santiago de Chile with the participation of film critic, Javier Macua.

On Friday there will be no screening but there will be a talk given by university professor Mariano Sánchez Soler, entitled: De los Guardias y ladrones al Thriller: Bosquejo del cine español.

The festival closes on Saturday when well known Sevillano director, Benito Zambrano, will pay homage to this third edition of the festival, to be followed by the screening of his latest film, La Voz Dormida.
