The Almuñécar fire service tackled a fire in Lobres, just above Salobreña. They were on their way back from another incident in Molvízar, which is why they were the first fire-fighting unit to arrive.
The fire, which appears to have been caused by somebody burning cuttings in an area known as the Era del Teniente, where thre is a lot of wild sugar cane (cañaveral), broke out in the evening on Friday the 21st, after night had fallen. At one point several houses were threatened by the flames.
The Almuñécar firemen were soon joined by units from Salobreña and Motril, as well as the Guardia Civil and Policía Local from Salobreña.
The fire was declared extinguished at around 00.30h the following morning.
