The Junta de Andalucia has put on hold the extension work on Motril’s Hospital Santa Ana until “better economical times.”
Unfortunately, back in 2008, the North Wing was demolished to make way for the new one, which won’t be materializing in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, there is an overgrown plot, surrounded by metal fencing, where the North Wing used to stand.
The new wing was going to hold the administrative offices, meetings rooms, classrooms and even a canteen. There were also going to be wards for a further 200 beds.
The ex-Motril Mayor and present conservative regional MP, Carlos Rojas, finally pinned the governing socialist party down, after repeated previous attempts to obtain a response: what time frame are we looking at for the completion of the extension work at the district Santa Ana Hospital?
The Head of the Regional Public Health Board replied that it was pending a better economical climate but reaffirmed that the said work was a priority for the Regional Government.
Carlos Rojas qualified the reply as “shameful” and a veritable blow to the Costa Tropical.
Editorial Note: Carlos Rojas formed a platform to harangue the then socialist Central Government on the completion of the A-7 coastal autovia, yet when his party took power in Madrid in 2012, he remained strangely quiet about the speed on developments on the A-7, losing his zeal to press Madrid, yet as can been seen here, he is still willing to demand public spending from the socialist administrations closer to hand…
