El Playazo Businesses Fined

NRJ El playazo OnLThe Department of the Environment at the Junta has fined seven businesses on El Playazo in Nerja for allegedly contravening the Ley de Costas. The reason? the D.o.P. considers that the said businesses have “invaded public land for uses not permitted.”

Four chiringuitos, an ice-cream kiosk and two varaderos (boatyards) could be fined up to 300,506 euros each, but it remains to be seen as they’re not taking it lying down. Some of them have complained that they have been operating as they are now for the last 20 years with no problems whatsoever with this administration in Málaga.

The provincial delegate for the D.o.P. Javier Carnero, has ordered that the businesses are to cease operating, which has been met by refusals in the majority of cases.

“There are chiringuitos that have been operating here for 20 years with a licence from the Town Hall,” said the owner of one of the boatyards, adding that in his opinion, “they’re politically motivated fines.”
