As if it were not enough that the Tax Office and Seguridad Social circle like buzzards over the hard-pressed autonomos, they now have to watch out for false Hacienda letters.
It looks like good news, but it isn’t: “After our latest calculations, you are entitled to a tax rebate of 384 euros – click on the link to fill in the necessary form,” reads the toxic email. But if you do click on that link, it won’t be only the government after your money, but Internet crooks.
Now, when it comes to skinning you alive, Hacienda doesn’t want to be confused with amateurs, so they are bending over backwards to warn unwary Internet users to be on the look out for these web bandits that have been masquerading as the Tax Office.
You have been warned: if you get nice letter from Hacienda saying they want to give you some money back, the chances are that it’s not them, so double check.
