Regional Paragliding Championship in Almuñécar

Around 50 paragliding competitors will participate this week in Velilla (Almuñécar) in the I Campeonato de Andalucía de Parapente de Precisión.

Antonio Castro from The Club Parapente Costa Tropical, pointed out that this is the first regional competition of the ‘precision’ variety, which will be held on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th, both in the mornings and afternoons.

The launching point will be from the Loma del Gato and with the landing zone on Velilla beach. The landing is the important bit because with precision paragliding the pilot has to land inside a target. This variety of competition is very new in Spain.

Obviously, all it depends on the weather but things should kick-off on Saturday morning between 09.00h and 10.00h for hopefuls to register themselves as competitors. After this there will be a short safety briefing – all pilots must be present.

The actual flights will take place between 11.00h and 18.30h. The competition will continue the next day between 10.00h and 13.00h.

Prize giving and the closing ceremony will take place between 14.30h and 16.30h.

The I Campeonato de Andalucía  Parapente de Precisión is organized by the  Comisión Técnica de Parapente – which depends on the Federación Andaluza de Deportes Aéreos (FEADA) – and the Club de Parapente Costa Tropical with the support of the Almuñécar Municipal Sports Board.
