The parking and manoeuvring area of the Motril bus station has been tarmacked. The total area tarmacked is 1,000 sq/m.
This has been thanks to a deal struck between the Town Hall and Nex Continental Holdings, who financed the material and who hold the lease on the bus station.
There was no doubt that the bus station in general is looking a bit ropey (worn out) but at the same time, wandering into the building is like travelling back to Spain circa 1970/80, which is far from disagreeable.
“The Town Hall is supplying 10 workers from Servicio de Mantenimiento, as well as the tarmacking equipment, whilst the company is supplying the material and its transportation,” explained the Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro.
It was on the 3rd of December, 2010 that the then Delegate for Public Works, Nieves Masegosa made an appearance in Motril with the project for a new bus station under her arm. She stated that that the construction contract would be put out to bid during the first months of 2011, to be followed shortly by the building phase on a plot on the Vadillo (industrial estate on the old Almería road).
Whilst it is true that the first phase actually happened, with the contract being awarded to Constrat in April 2011 for 1.669,667 euros, nothing has happened since then.
