Sunday the 29th saw the IV Travesia Popular de Montaña Costa Tropical taking place in the Sierra de Molvízar. Over 100 trekkers participated in this day out, which was organized by the Club El Sendero de Motril.
Walkers gathered at 06.15h from the school in Molvízar, where breakfast was had before setting out at 07.00h on the 19-kilometre trek heading for the Fuente Pinos rendezvous with other participants from other corners of Andalucia.
The first hour and a half was in the darkness so torches were needed but with dawn walkers could make out the magnificent views of the Costa Tropical down below.
The walkers then passed El Pico Columba, which belongs to the range of coastal mountains that separate Molvizar from Los Guajares arrived at La Guindalera. From this point the expedition took the old mines track.
Later, picking up food in the form of energy drinks and snack bars, they reached the Museo de la Compañía, were they were given a talk on the history of Molvízar before arriving at Las Escuelas where a bloody great paella awaited them.
The day ended with prize giving, amongst them a prize for the oldest participant, 82-year-old Francisco Béjar Jiménez, and for the youngest, 10-year-old Alberto Ortega Vílchez.
