Motril’s Parque Pueblos de Las Americas is having work done on one of its fountains, in the north east corner of the park. Of course, top politicians have been visiting and getting in the way of the photographers…
Mayor Luisa García Chamorro says that this work is part of the drive to ’embellish’ the town by restoring deteriorated features.
She explained that the fountain in question has hardly been in use since it was originally built and has been pending repair for quite some time.
Quite separate from the park, but right next to it – people confuse their names because of their close proximity – is the Plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas, which is the paved square where the tourist information office stands. This square will also be receiving some attention, too.
The Vice Mayor, who was also present, explained that the fountain re-modelling work has a budget of 50,000 euros.
The controversial aspect of this work is that the 50,000 euros comes from the Plan de Fomento del Empleo Agrario, in other words a grant from the Junta to be used in the agricultural sector of the municipality; i.e., road infrastructure and irrigation-channel repair, etc. But of course, work carried out in the middle of nowhere will go unnoticed by voters, wouldn’t it?
