Brits Being Naughty

A British couple in Coin have been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs with a rented removals van. A total of 168 kilos of drugs were hidden inside the furniture and household objects bound for Blighty (The UK).

The couple were pretty sure that such a mundane thing as a mudanza (house removals) would not attract the attention of the Spanish police – unfortunately, they were also pretty wrong.

The couple, aged 47 and 48, both residents of Coin, Málaga, were rumbled on the 26th of August when the police searched their home and found another 90 kilos of marihuana and 78 kilos of hashish within the furniture and electrical goods packaged for transport; stuffed in the back of a dishwasher, clothes dryer, TV and sofa, for example.

So how did the police rumble them? The Policia Nacional had heard on the grapevine that a British couple in the province of Málaga were running a little set-up to introduce hashish into the country and to then distribute to the UK. Police investigations led them to the couple’s house. So they kept an eye on it, believing it to be a ‘safe house’ for the reception and repackaging of the merchandise in vacuumed packed smaller packets.

The couple have now changed their accommodation to a larger, shared, arrangement.
