Hospital Ceiling Falls on Patients

Imagine that you’re lying there in your hospital bed, in the dead of night, unable to sleep, but thinking that things could be worse – and then the ceiling falls on you.

That’s what happened in the main, Granada-city hospital (Virgen de las Nieves – Traumatologia). Room 614 is a 3-person room in which three elderly women were sleeping when the false ceiling groaned and then fell upon the beds.

One woman, who was sleeping in the chair beside her mother’s bed, heard it giving and jumped onto her mother to fend off the falling plaster. The Daughter explained how there had been strange noises throughout the day, but they had thought that it was coming from a room from the floor above – not so.

Fortunately, just across the corridor, a policeman was guarding a hospitalized prisoner. When all hell broke loose, he rushed across to help the three old ladies. Within moments other policemen had arrived.

The hospital administration issued a statement saying that this was a one-off, highly unusual occurrence and would be investigated. However, in July 2010, the same thing happened in Room 619, on the same floor…
