Owners of building land in La Herradura are worried that the new 500-metre no-build strip proposed by the Junta will turn it all into greenbelt.
The Junta’s intention, as explained in a previous article, is to preserve what little untouched land remains along the coast of Andalucia, hence the increase of the no-build strip, which covers the first 100 metres of land from the seashore, to a wider corridor of 500 metres; or if you prefer half a kilometre.
In the case of La Herradura, the 500-metre limit would reach the main road, and in some cases, just over it, meaning that all undeveloped land between the beach and the main road would become greenbelt land. Many small landowners within this area already have permission to build on their land but have not done so for economic reasons. However, those permits could be annulled.
Benavides’ Party, the CA, has stepped in and organized the landowners into a lobby (plataforma) called, Por el Desarollo de la Litoral de La Herradura. Sr Benavides considers that the pending 500-metre law has not taken into account places like La Herradura. He says that the property value of the land will plummet and seriously handicap the village’s economy.
He underlined the fact that the village also needs parts of this area for public spaces, such as the proposed secondary school, a new medical centre and government-subsidized housing.
