Forest Fire Scare in Padul

Infoca used both air and land units to tackle a small mountain fire next to Padul, in the Valle de Lecrín. They were joined by firemen from the city of Granada.

The fire, which broke out one kilometre from the Durcal exit on the A-44 autovía, wiped out eight hectares of mountain shrub land before being controlled and put out, taking a little over an hour and three quarters. Two helicopters, one plane and three fire-fighter squads totaling 21 crew, as well as five city firemen were needed to tackle the blaze and protect two cortijos in its path.

At one point it was feared that the autovía would need to be closed down because of the thick smoke, making visibility very difficult, which, coinciding with a weekend would have caused no end of traffic problems for those coming and going from the coast.

Fortunately, thanks to the prompt and professional action of the fire-fighting units, the damage was limited and the whole incident reduced to a few tense moments for the residents of Padul.
