The Guardia Civil in Láchar (Poniente) has charged a 46-year-old woman with an animal rights infringement after she allegedly ran over her own dog to rid herself of it.

A neighbour had reported to the Guardia Civil on the 3rd of July that the woman had tried on three occasions to abandon her pet in front of her house; i.e., the house of the neighbour, but as the dog ran after the car every time she tried to move off, the pet owner then ran over it several times, passing over its head to make sure it was dead, before hurriedly driving off. Not before, however, the neighbour had written down her number plate.

The woman was charged with abandoning and mistreating a domestic animal.
