Torrox Trouble

A 50-year-old resident in El Morche (Torrox) was arrested after attacking two municipal policemen who were attempting to have his badly parked car towed. In fact there were two cars, both of which belonged to the arrested man.

The incident occurred on the night of Sunday the 15th of this month when a police patrol was dispatched to Calle Santiago after they received a call from irate locals; the cars were so badly parked that they blocked the said street.

The police were in the midst of having the cars hitched for removal when the owner approached and tried to get into one of the cars and start it, with the intention of leaving. One of the policemen then demanded that he showed them his identity and car documents, but instead he show one of them how to throw a punch, hitting the policeman in the face.

The policeman then immediately set about arresting the man, assisted by his colleague, despite vigorous attempts by the man to prevent it, lashing out with his fists and feet, as well as offering an assortment of insults.

It was at this point that the municipal police called the Guardia Civil for help, which dampened the spirits of the culprit. He was taken to the Guardia Civil post in Torrox to await appearing before a Justice of the Peace

One of the municipal policemen reported in sick, after receiving a bruised shoulder (tendinitis) whilst the other had bruising on the face and forearm.

The police also discovered that one of the vehicles did not have a valid ITV nor an insurance policy – in fact, he hadn’t even transferred the vehicle into his own name as the car documents still had his dead father’s name as the owner.

The municipal police gave him 1,200 euros in fines for these defects, as well as a further 600-euro fine for bad parking.
