Orgiva Referendum

The good folk of Orgiva… and the bad ones, will have a chance to vote in a referendum on whether they want a Casa de la Cultura or not. Not only ‘if,’ but where.

The Órgiva Town Hall has decided to put it to the residents of the capital town of La Alpujarra and have begun a campaign to collect and record their opinions on the matter. The Town Hall has 450,000 euros burning in their pockets, which must go on infrastructure installations, hence the idea of building a Casa de la Cultura.

The Mayor, María Ángeles Blanco, explained that during the last plenary meeting of the Town Council the ruling party had indicated their intention of building the said installations, but faced with the objections made by the other parties, they had thought that the townsfolk should decide for themselves.

But it’s not only about having a ‘cultural reference point’ for the Alpujarras; it is also about creating employment, because such a building would need a local workforce to erect it.

Anybody interested in registering their opinion can either do it at the Town Hall, itself, or via the Centro Guadalinfo.
