The Almuñécar Tax Office has been relocated from the P-4 and is now located in the Plaza de Kuwait; i.e, where the aquarium is.
The reason that the other one was closed on the 18th of March was because the task of collecting local taxes was handed over to the provincial authorities, which has the advantage for the town that this body gives an advance to the municipality on the amount to be collected. Quite handy in these cash-strapped times, no doubt.
In between the municipal office closing on the P-4 and this one opening, locals have been attended to either in the Town Hall building itself or in the Civic Centre in La Herradura.
This system was the one that had been in use for many years until the Benavides’ administration set up the P-4 one in a controversial move. Needless to say, the CA is not happy with the situation reverting to how it was, in the hands of the provincial authorities.
