Nerja Día del Residente

The Plaza de España in Nerja was the site of the 14th annual Día del Residente yesterday, Sunday the 14th.

The Municipal Band opened the event, followed by the woman in charge of the foreign residents Office, Inocencia Quintero, who thanked everybody for participating, both as spectators and organizers. She even expressed her recognition and gratitude towards the foreign community for making Nerja their home.

Afterwards, the Vice-Mayor, José Miguel García, pointed out how Nerja was a cosmopolitan community, both open and hospitable. He said that Nerja had 7,000 foreign residents on the books of 70 different nationalities. In case you were wondering, that represents 30% of the town’s total population.

There was plenty of music, besides the municipal band, and our José Montalvo, talented guitarist and sound engineer, kept all the musicians from making a nuisance of themselves by keeping a firm control on the mixing table. He didn’t turn up for the band practice today, so we can only assume that he was suitably knackered and recovering from his wounds.
