Hiking Group Visits Cerro Albita

A group of around 20 hikers stomped up to the top of Cerro Albita, which is above and behind La Herradura to enjoy the spectacular views.

The walk was organized by the Municipal Board for Sports in Almuñécar and is just one of many such walks organized throughout the year.

The group, led by local guide, Enrique Garín, set off from the Almuñécar bus station and cut across Río Seco before beginning the ascent by the Cuesta de Cantalobos until they reach the top of Cerro Albita at 600 metres.

That, Ladies and Gentlemen is a lot of determined up hill! But the views made the effort worthwhile because from there you can see down into La Herradura, with the autovia in the foreground but well below you. But there remains much higher ground around you, namely the peaks, Navachica and El Cielo. Thanks to the time of year, as well, the Spring colours are evident everywhere.

After filling their boots with the views, they then proceeded to fill the track with their boots and stomp down to La Herradura.

The next programmed walk will be very different, explained Enrique Garín: “The walk will be through the pine forests and meadows of the Sierra de Huétor, passing through such places as the Arco Árabe, el Palacio Árabe and the Fuente de Manolillo etc etc.”
