Gender Violence on the Streets

The Policía Local in Motril received a call from concerned locals to say that a man was attacking a woman in the middle of the street, at 02.30h.

A police patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene and came across a young woman obviously looking for help. The man standing next to her, stepped away from her when he saw the patrol car approaching.

The 25-year-old man was arrested after the woman explained that he was her ex and that he “would not stop bothering her.” She also explained that he would often come after her, despite there being a court order out against him, ordering him not to approach within 200 metres of her, because of previous incidents of maltreatment. Just prior to the arrival of the police he had been pulling her along, forcing her to go with him.

The woman was taken to Hospital Santa Ana to have a lesion on her arm treated. The man was arrested for breaking a court order.
