Otivar Stabbing Update

As reported in a previous article (HERE) a Romanian man in Valle Río Verde, Otivar, was stabbed to death by a compatriot. The aggressor, when cornered by the police, threw himself from a 3rd-floor balcony.

The 42-year-old victim, who was stabbed three times in the heart and twice in the arm, shared the house with his assailant, the man’s wife and two children. This family was at home when the victim arrived at 23.30h that Sunday evening.

Both men had been drinking and what appears to have triggered the dispute was a case of jealousy – this has not been confirmed. The woman admitted that her live-in boyfriend had threatened to kill her and her two children before turning on the other man and stabbing him. Directly after this he allegedly went to the kitchen, grabbed a large kitchen knife and attacked his victim.

A neighbour was alarmed by the screaming and shouting and called 112, who immediately dispatched an ambulance and a police patrol. When the ambulance arrived, there was nothing that they could do for the victim because he was already dead.

Then the Guardia Civil arrived. The interesting point to reflect upon is that these policemen are stationed in Otivar, so they only had a distance of 500 metres or more to cover to reach the scene of the incident. The ambulance must have arrived from Almuñécar, 14 kilometres away, yet it arrived first…

Anyway, the police entered the dwelling and found the man on the 3rd-floor balcony and before they could seize him he had jumped, suffering severe back and head injuries. The ambulance took him to the Granada hospital, Traumatología, probably continuing on up the Cabra road, being the shortest route.

The man is in the I.C.U. and his medical status is “maximum severity.” Furthermore, if he does survive, says a source in the hospital, it could be in a vegetative state.

The woman later declared before the Guardia Civil that her partner maltreated her, although she had never reported him for it.

Summing up, the stabbed man was 38 and the attacker 42, who had 28 previous arrests on his criminal record. It appears that the friendship between the two men went back long before the woman and her children entered into the equation. The two men had originally rented the house between them, just off the main road in Otívar.

Not much happens up in Otívar, but when it does…
