One gets the impression that the present Town Council is going out of its way to look after La Herradura, because hardly a week passes without another bout of urban improvements.
This time its the street lighting near the San José Church, from Calle Canalejas and Unidad, as far as the junction with Calle Barranquillo. The First Councillor for the village, Juan José Ruiz Joya (PP), explained that the Municipal Services and Maintenance Department has installed eight new lampposts, each measuring three metres in height and packing a 100w bulb.
Of course it has been necessary to dig a shallow trench alongside the footpath or pavement to lay the cables. Taking advantage of this digging about, they will sort out places where the pavement is damaged (cracked or subsided).
“It will all be done and dusted before the village fiestas, San José comes around on the 19th of March. After that, work will continue by extending the lighting arrangement to the junction between Barranquillo and Calle Alhambra,” explained Sr. Ruiz Joya.
In the meantime the zebra crossings on the main street giving access to the beach from the top junction have received small lights on the road surface to highlight the presence of these pedestrian crossings during the the hours of darkness.
