Fire Evacuation Cost 18,000 Euros

The governing party of the Almuñécar Town Council received a report from the Coordinator of the Social Services Department concerning the fire in Avenida de Europa on the 12th of November. As a result of the fire around 150 people had to be rehoused temporarily at the expense of the Town Hall, which cost 18,574 euros, according to the report.

Apartment blocks 2 and 4 in Calle Pablo Iglesias, just off the Avenida de Europa were evacuated and accommodation at public expense was found for 22 families, 13 of whom were accommodated at Hostal Carmen under full board. A further 38 people were served breakfast there on the morning of the 12th. The last family lodged there was allowed to return home on the 30th of November.

The municipality also possesses a publicly owned apartment in Laderas de Castelar (San Sebastian) where two families with a total of seven people were lodged. The private cleaning company, Multiservicios Delfín Verde was charged with maintaining it.

Finally, in the Palacete del Escamado a further 20 people were lodged between the 12th and the 27th of November. Again, the cleaning company Multiservicios Delfín Verde S.L. looked after the cleaning and Mesón Mari y Miguel provided the food.

It should not be forgotten that on the day of the fire, emergency crews and Social Service personnel were fed at the Restaurante Samurai and the Pizzería Tarantela.

The above accounts for the 18.574,51 euros spent from the municipal coffers, and it should be pointed out that this sum does not include other expenses accrued during the operation.
