The Salobreña Town Hall has announced that it will close down its bank account in any bank that carries out evictions.
Furthermore, the Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández, says that he will give instructions to the municipal police not to participate in any eviction unless their presence is specifically ordered by a judge.
The object of this decision, says the Mayor, is so that no family in Salobreña is evicted from their homes until a new law is brought into being. He also says that he is in favour of the Town Hall mediating between banks and homeowners facing eviction, so that the result can be reached via a ‘social rent;’ i.e, a rent payment at a socially acceptable level that will allow both the bank and the “tenant” to satisfy their needs.
