It’s not very often that we come out in number one slot, so even if it is for a negative reason, it’s worth celebrating. Spain has the highest percentage of cocaine and cannabis users in Europe. (Click on image to expand.)
People aged between 15 and 34 are the main age group concerning drug consumption. On a truly positive note, things haven’t deteriorated, as we’ve been at the top for a while – although the number of drug users remains reasonably static.
This information is in a report issued by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), which was published on the 15th of November.
At least three million Europeans between the ages of 15 and 34 have consumed cocaine in the last twelve months, which represents 1.2% of the total population. Spain strides to the first-place spot with 4.4% of its population using the two drugs, which is double the European average.
Mind you, the UK isn’t far behind having 4.2% of the popular using C. & C. Hell, even the USA, which is obviously not included in the European ranking, ‘enjoys’ 4.0%, but then again, 4.0% of 300m is not the same as 4.4% of 40m, is it.
If you are wondering who is on the other end of the scale in Europe, it is Greece and Romania; in the former, let’s face it, nobody has the money…
