Walking Through The Snow

The Almuñécar hiking group that walked from Puerto de la Ragua to La Calahorra were confronted by winter conditions that don’t exist here on the coast… but they liked it!

The walking group of 15, fully equipped for the occasion, set off at 09.15h last Sunday trudging through snowfall, which was far from unpleasant because it wasn’t that cold.

The countryside was almost idyllic with groves of chestnut trees and many of the group took the opportunity to gather up the fallen chestnuts for later ‘roasting.’

After passing through Venta Natalio and the Ermita de la Virgen de la Cabeza, they reached the village of Ferreira, (whose name comes from Latin and literally means iron, testimony to the mines from the time of the Romans and even before).

The weather deteriorated a bit after that, with a heavier snowfall, which accompanied them all the way to La Calahorra.

They thoroughly enjoyed it.
