There will be a general strike on Wednesday the 14th of November. There will be minimum services on public transport but by midday, those businesses that closed will probably be reopening, judging by previous general strikes.

Although there is a very pronounced feeling amongst Spaniards that the austerity measures, or better said where they are being targeted, are grossly unfair, it is not clear that it will translate into a massive backing of the coming general strike. This is because many people consider that a general strike is not going to help the situation in the least.

If the strike were so massive that it would cause the government to change course, it would also mean that the damage caused by the strike is likely to reflect very negatively on the international markets, etc.

Regardless of the turn out on the day of the strike, there is going to be quite a lot of disruption on air travel, so readers who have flights planned for that day should proceed with caution with their travel plans.
