On Friday 19th October the Almuñecar Branch of the Royal Naval Association held a very successful Trafalgar Night Dinner at restaurant Rincón de Peña Parda in La Herradura. There were 54 members and guests, including several from Runcorn Branch of the RNA, who had come especially for the dinner. The Guest of Honour for the evening was Bruce McIntyre, the President of the English Cemetery Foundation and ex-British Consul, who delivered a speech on Admiral Lord Nelson.
It was also the night commemorating the 450 anniversary of the tragic loss of the Spanish Fleet in La Herradura bay, which was fairly evocative for a briny bunch! Several managed to watch the fireworks that were part of the commemoration.
During the course of the evening, money was extracted from the guests by way of a grand raffle, with the proceeds going to BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association), Combat Stress and the English Cemetery in Málaga – which contains four War Graves, one of which is Royal Naval. It is anticipated that each of these charities will receive 100 euros as a result of the raffle.
The night was a great success. Thanks to the members who organised it and the staff of Rincón de Peña Parda .
