La Herradura finally held its swimming competition with 80 swimmers taking part. Estela Orozco and Marcos Álvarez took the women’s and men’s first places, respectively. There were prizes for the kiddies and veteran swimmer, Ángel Galdo, was handed a plaque.
As mentioned above, Estela Orozco came over the finishing line first from amongst the 64 swimmers that took part in this main section. The starting point was Peña Parda with the finishing line 2,000 metres away at La Caleta, next to the Punta de la Mona. She did it in only 25 minutes. Last across the line was José Manuel Peralta, who took part despite mobility problems, taking 65 minutes. What he did not make in speed, he certainly did in endurance.
The junior section had a more modest half-kilometre race, leaving from in front of Dani’s and finishing at the Caleta, too. The first girl across the line was Paula Novo Albertus, who is a member of the Club Náutico Motril. The first lad was Juan Antonio Fernández Rodrigo.
