There will be an exhibition of Russian Icons from the XVI to the XIX Centuries from the 5th of September, which will run through to the 28th of the month. This collection of religious works belongs to the Fundación Faustino Orbegozo Eizaguirre.
The exhibition, which will be available for viewing during normal museum times, is entitled, Iconos Donde el Tiempo no Existía and consists of 58 selected pieces from the foundations full collection.
The exhibition will be officially inaugurated at 13.00h as part of the Day of the Tourist celebrations. A Russian Embassy official, Aysur Belekova, will be present for the inaugural event.
The word ‘icon’ comes from Byzantine Greek and literally means image. It is a religious painting mounted in a portable frame/case. In the majority of cases, it is made of wood covered in a fine layer of plaster which can have a fine linen cover added.
