The Almuñécar branch of the CA opposition party has denounced that the 4X4 bus service to Peña Escrita has been cancelled and the said bus parked up.

The bus, whose acquisition in the first place had caused a controversy, has been used by the private bus company, Joya, to cover this service. In fact, the whole of the Peña Escrita project has been controversial, so the purchase of this very expensive vehicle was just another facet to the general discord.

At the moment, the automatic barrier on the park that is activated by purchasing an entrance ticket is not functioning, and has not been for a while, so the park is generating no income. Coupled with the impressive fines already incurred over how the animals are kept up there, the park has turned into a money drain, which no doubt led the governing party into mothballing the bus.

However, quite what other purpose Almuñécar might have for a heavy-duty, 4X4 bus, other than for the mountain park, is not easy to envisage. Perhaps the mothballing of the bus is the first step towards closing down the Peña Escrita Park?
