Green Cooperation

The First Councillor for Carchuna-Calahonda, Concepción Abarca, seen here with the Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, and her Vice-Mayor, Nicolás Navarro, took a walk around the spruced-up Camino del Puntal, which is between the cemetery and the Calahonda football ground.

This area used to be a rubbish tip and when the flood hit El Llano (Calahonda) a year or so ago, most of the mud and debris that flowed down the Rambla de Vizcarra, clogging the beach-road bridge and causing the flooding came from there. The transformation of this unkempt area into a green park has been quite remarkable.

The Motril Town Hall actually cleaned up the area, provided the new vegetation and installed the irrigation system – hence the two representatives from the that town – whilst Calahonda provided the irrigation material and planted the lawn.

The end result is this pleasant 7-metre-wide, green paseo, studded with palms and shrubs. The representatives from both towns patted each other on the back and reaffirmed that the way forward was continued cooperation between the metropolis and its ex dependencies.
