Twenty years down the line, Salobreña continues with its highly popular Tendencias music festival – this year will be no different with the festival taking place between the 6th and the 10th August.
Wim Mertens, Michael Nymand, Salif Keita and Enrique Morente are some of the names behind this off-the-beaten track selection of musicians, who reflect their culture or ethnicity. The festival has become so well established that it is now a major date in Andalucía’s August agenda; a not-to-be-missed, Granada evening event.
The festival was born in 1992 as a meeting point for new musical tendencies and 21 years later it continues to enthrall its audiences. It is because of its popularity that the Provincial Council continues to back it, even in these budget-cut times.
But it’s not just all about music, but also includes cinema and theatre, too. The big name this year is Santiago Auserón who will give a performance on Friday the 10th on the Paseo de las Flores, beneath the flood-lit castle backdrop. With his project Juan Perro & La Zarabanda he investigates new inroads into popular Cuban music.
The day before, on the 9th at the municipal auditorium, Albert Plá will perform some of his best-known songs in a show called Tenemos problemas, together with guitarist Diego Cortés.
During the rest of the week, residents and visitors alike can enjoy theatre productions for the whole family, staged by the theatre group Teatrapo.
