…how the streets of Almuñécar have taken a pounding from our canine friends? There must be something about the heat that stimulates dogs’ bowels.
Well, even if you haven’t noticed, the Town Hall has… and has decided to do something about it. The Councillor for the Environment is putting the final touches to a campaign to make dog owners aware of the importance of keeping the town’s streets clear of dog excrement.
The worst ‘hit’ area is the old town, up near the castle, where there is literally nowhere to take your dog for a good squat shot. Most dog owners up there heave their dogs out the front door and let it back in again when it looks suitably ’empty.’ The consequence is that there is hardly a pavement up there that does not have ‘canine cake’ embellishing its surface.
The Town Hall intends, as we mentioned above, to make dog owners more aware of the health hazards of letting Rover go into ‘trot, squat and squint’ mode at his fancy but at the end of the day fining dog owners is the only effective way to bring it home to them. Getting them to pay the said fines is another thing altogether…
