Saturday is Shopping Night

Almuñécar is having a Jazz Shopping Night tomorrow evening (Saturday 14th), with 60 shops taking part, opening from 21.30h to 02.00h the next morning.

This is basically the brainchild of the business sector, who have found the support of the Town Hall in this initiative, which is a drive to boost the flagging consumer sector, explained the Councillor for Commerce, José Manuel Fernández.

Obviously, not everybody will be happy with this; i.e, the people living above or near the participating shops, but one wonders why people come down to the coast in July, expecting to find peace and quiet – one of the universe’s great mysteries, no doubt.

Anyway, all kinds of shops are taking part, including bookshops, perfume stores, gift shops, decoration shops, photographers, jewellers, opticians, shoe shops and even estancos, so if you’re gasping and out of fags, you needn’t worry.

Where to find them? Calles: Trinidad, Fuente Nueva, Vélez, plaza Ayuntamiento, calle Real,
Pescadería, Baja del Mar, Cerrajeros, plaza de la Rosa, plaza de Madrid and
avenida de Andalucía, amongst others.

All the participating staff must wear the event’s T-shirt, which has been designed and provided by the Asociación de Comercio de Almuñécar (CCA). Completely ruled out is any kind of bar for drinks or food. The only “extra” permitted will be a “a small table with a maximum size of one square metre, which has to be right next to the shop’s door.
The Councillor emphasised that Jazz Shopping Night concludes at 02.00h, by which time all shops must have their doors closed. Shop owners then have a maximum of 30 minutes to lock up and leave.

Finally, every shop that is taking part must have on display the logo designed for the event.
