The PP-run, Motril, Town hall have rejected opposition criticism from the PSOE concerning an alleged lack of policing at the municipal market.
The Town Hall claims that it attends all requests coming out of the municipal market and states that the, “Policía Local tiene presencia permanente,” which doesn’t take much translation, and then emphasises this affirmation with, “forma diaria.”
The Councillor for Citizen Safety, Manuel Ballesteros; i.e., the civilian head of the municipal police, also says that they have been handing out leaflets to remind people of the regulations governing the use of rubbish containers and, furthermore, that the Town Hall has installed a loading turntable at the back door so that fish can be delivered directly to the stands on which it is sold.
According to the statement made by the opposition party, unsavoury individuals were hanging around the market, intimidating and even attacking townsfolk. Councillor Ballesteros responded by saying that the “social alarm” caused by the PSOE spokesperson, Flor Almón, was unacceptable, as she was giving a bad impression of the market installations instead of promoting the positive aspects.
He admits that “people with dogs” sit around at the entrance or on nearby benches, but that the PSOE should understand that you can’t throw people in jail if they haven’t committed a crime.
“When we see inappropriate conduct, we act according to the law and bylaws,” he stated.
