The Peña Deportiva La Herradura and the CD La Herradura 2005, both village teams, have reached an agreement to merge for the coming season’s matches. The Councillor for Sport, Luis Aragón, thought that it was a spiffing idea and very much in tune with cutting back on costs, not to mention being beneficial for the footballing base in the village.

The Chairpersons for both clubs, Samuel de Haro and Fabiola Cacín were pretty chuffed themselves, because there was little point in having two football clubs in a village size of La Herradura, both vying for public grants. Talking of public grants, both teams were receiving funds to cover transport costs to and from away matches, for example.
The coming football season will see the joint club figuring under the name La Herradura CF 2005. CF, by the way, stands for Club de Fútbol; Peña is the Spanish word for ‘club’ and CD means Club Deportivo.

As the Chairwoman for CD La Herradura put it, “La Herradura is a small village and there are very few kids…” But even so, her club had around 50 girls and boys and the other club had a total of 80 players, so they must have been cloning the blighters between them.
