For the third consecutive year, Nerja has obtained Blue Flags for its beaches: Burriana, Torrecilla, El Playazo and Maro, placing Nerja amongst the top ranking coastal towns in Andalucia, preceded only by Marbella (7) Roquetas (6) and Rota (5).

The Councillor for Beaches, Sandra Jimena, is over the moon, explaining “This is fruit of a team of people, as well as the environmental awareness of beach users.”

The Bandera Azul is awarded by an international panel of judges, comprising of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), as well as the UN environmental organization (PNUMA-UNEP), The European agency for the environment (EEA) and three other international organizations.
