Teacher Rams Pupils…

On May 22nd the day of the strike in the education sector, there was an unfortunate incident, marring what should have been a peaceful protest.

The incident took place at the IES Mediterraneo (secondary school) involving a teacher in his car and several pupils. Around 30 pupils were demonstrating at the main entrance, picketing it to persuade pupils and staff not to enter.

It appears that a male teacher decided that he wasn’t going to stop, pushing his car through and in the process knocking into a couple of the pupils and running over their backpacks. The provincial press says that the car ’embistó,’ which translates to ‘smashed or rammed into’ which would have readers envisaging pupils knocked over like skittles and catapulted in all directions, but considering the report on the actual injuries, the impact was probably more along the lines of shoving his car through.

The school Head when confronted by indignant protestors qualified the incident as strike-action, collateral damage, bless him.

Anyway, the parents of the said pupils didn’t think so because they reported the teacher to the Guardia Civil for, amongst other things, running over the mobile phone of one of the students, which was inside the said, squashed backpack.

According to one of the pupils the teacher ploughed through the gates at ‘full speed’ causing two students to suffer a bruised arm and a bruised wrist between them.

Hmmm… This probably means that the lad with the bruised wrist will be off writing for a week although the said wrist will still be effective for other activities, no doubt.
