There was a bit of an ugly incident during a 3rd-Divison match between Nerja and Huétor Tájar when the goalie from the former punched the ref in the face.

Referee Crespo Sánchez, from Cádiz, had just pulled a red card on local-player Iván for apparently insulting him in the 71st minute of the match when the goalie not only knocked the startled ref off his feet, but also continued to thump him on the ground.

According to the referee himself, he was unconscious for a few seconds but upon getting up, the match was, not surprisingly, suspended and the ‘injured party’ whisked off in an ambulance to the Centro de Saludo, where he was treated for a cut under his left eye, before being transferred to the area hospital where he had further examinations.
