The final touches to the new-look Calle Pablo Iglesias were added with the new, raised, planters – a glance at the photograph will clarify what we mean by that.
Accordingly, the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, together with the Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón and the Councillor for Town Planning, José Manuel Fernández, present for the infallible official photograph with suitably impressed expressions visible.
Right, for those of you who are not sure where this street is, it is the one that links Avenida Europa; i.e., the one that whistles down beside the Parque Majuelo, to Calle Guadix, which is the one that runs down the side of the Rio Seco.
The Mayor emphasised that this work was carried out because everybody was sick and tired of the palm trees, which were doing their best to buckle the pavement and act as motorways for tree rats and cockroaches into people’s windows, thanks to the fronds that protrude onto balconies.
The towering palm trees, by the way, which were over 20 years old, were replanted on the Cuesta de Godoy, which is the lane that leads up from behind Las Góndolas to the top of Los Pinos. Plenty of nutritional Geography in this article, eh?
Now, along with the changes to the pavement, there has been a change to traffic flow as well; whereas previously it was two way, it now only permits traffic heading towards Calle Guadix.
Finally – if you’ve managed to maintain interest this far down the article – the new tree arrangement includes callistemon (Bottlebrush), and an assortment of flowers.
